ABOUT US

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Long Beach student chapter is a professional development organization under the College of Engineering. Our goal is to support chemical engineering students, develop their professional skills, expose them to industry opportunities and foster a sense of camaraderie within the major. However, membership is open to all majors and everyone is encouraged to come to one of our meetings or stop by our office in EN3 - 116 if interested

MEET OUR OFFICERS

Passionate and Innovative Engineers

We’re proud to present our amazing team. Their care, enthusiasm and dedication to helping students exceed their goals pushes CSULB AIChE to the next level.

Dr. Ji-Hwan Kang.png

DR. JI-HWAN KANG

Chem-E Car Advisor

Dr. Kang’s research focuses on developing soft active materials that respond to their surroundings for dynamically reconfigurable, intelligent systems. His research applies a multidisciplinary approach to create bio-inspired, programmable deformation and instability towards smart sensing/actuating platforms such as untethered soft robotics, mechanical logic gates, adaptive porous surfaces, and drug delivery systems.

Dr. Roger Lo.png

DR. ROGER LO

Department Chair

Roger C. Lo joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at California State University, Long Beach in 2009.
Dr. Lo’s research interest focuses on developing microfluidics-based systems for high-throughput separation and detection of chemical/biological species, and modular chemical/biological reactions.

Dr. Yu Yang.png

DR. YU YANG

Faculty Advisor

Dr. Yang's research focuses on the application of process control and optimization theories for large-scale and complex chemical processes and systems. His research interests include experimental and computational approaches for chemical process design, simulation, control, and operations. His process optimization research has been patented and BP applied it to its refinery scheduling and planning systems.

ENRICHING STUDENT LIVES

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is a leading, integrated, downstream energy company headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. The company operates the nation's largest refining system. MPC's marketing system includes branded locations across the United States, including Marathon brand retail outlets. MPC also owns the general partner and majority limited partner interest in MPLX LP, a midstream company that owns and operates gathering, processing, and fractionation assets, as well as crude oil and light product transportation and logistics infrastructure.

OUR MISSION

We strive to better our students through educational experiences both in and out of the classroom. The mission of CSULB AIChE is to create a place where students feel safe to tackle obstacles and accomplish all of their goals. We offer a variety of opportunities to help students be the best version of themselves, while having some fun along the way.

TOMORROW STARTS NOW!

AIChE’s annual Chem-E Car Competition engages college students in designing and constructing a car powered by a chemical energy source, that will safely run a specific given distance and stop.
The last time the CSULB Chapter competed in 2019, we secured 1st place in nationals.
We, the officers, and engineers of the 2023 chapter, intend to bring it back!
